Devine Color is a color content company that seeks to give you color confidence through a philosophy and a process that allows you to recognize the colors you love. We are committed to developing products that deliver the personal palette you have been looking for. Making your environment personal and beautiful for you and your family is at the top of my list because I know how much it means to me.
It all started by being sandwiched between four walls. I had just quit my lucrative job as a pharmaceutical sales rep to stay home and raise my children. So there I was, between a hard place and a wall.
I went to work on my home and the walls were the first priority. With a graphic design background and endless creative energy, I was thrilled to have found a juicy artistic outlet. I have a sixth sense about color, and soon friends and neighbors were asking for my help. They shared horror stories about how a wall color had just simply gone wrong.
I thought it would be glorious if I could help everyone with their colors and make a little money on the side. I started to faux finish and create solid colors that coordinated spaces through color. I soon found myself developing personal palettes for clients.
With over 10,000 colors in different paint decks, I had to customize each and every one of the colors so they wouldn’t turn too red, too green, too shallow, or look too anemic. It was amazing how, in each case, had we gone with the original paint deck color, it might have been a big mistake.
I thought I was safe making colors until a 6,000 square foot mistake happened. It changed my life and, as a result, it eventually led me to change the lives of others.
The color I had created for a client had been matched, but it went terribly WRONG! Sandwiched between my client’s floor and walnut antiques, was this fleshy, shiny, grayish color that was unacceptable. The painter said the sheen would die down in 60 days. To me, that was like telling a woman that her hair color would be alright after 60 days.
I realized that not many of my clients knew about the differences in paint quality and finishes. While they obsessed over how the right finish on a fabric makes a difference, they didn’t know the importance of how a finish affects wall color.
I had to do something about it. I went though all my custom colors. I could see that I had developed colors with an affinity to wood tones so they wouldn’t become the loudest drunk at a party. I could see that with each color I had created guidelines for myself as to what colors should and should not be over 400 square feet in size. I saw the importance of color relationships and how color does not stand alone.
I worked hard on how I could make a difference in the way my clients could choose perfect colors that lived in their homes, creating “Harmony without Monotony and Contrast without Conflict.” It took a couple of years before a successful regional paint manufacturer took my concepts and decided to back them with quality paint that could deliver the principles I believed in. Devine Color was born. Everybody has a story and every story is about destiny.
